Leota Ferne Lounsberry
December 27, 1920 - April 16, 2011Ferne L. Lounsberry, 90, passed peacefully in her sleep at Woodlands Creek Senior Living Community in Clive, Iowa on April 16.
She was born to Squire and Ardella (Kline) Stevens on December 27, 1920 in Collins, Iowa. Ferne was a graduate of East high School in Des Moines and Drake University.
On February 3, 1946 she married Wayne Lounsberry at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada. Ferne taught elementary school at both Shipley School and Nevada Community Schools and lived on the family farm South of Nevada for over 60 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada, P.E.O. NE Chapter, and was a 4-H Leader for many years.
Ferne's family and friends were the most important things in her life. She enjoyed traveling with her family and had fond memories of family vacations to Florida, California, fishing trips to Canada, visiting 3 World's Fairs, and traveling with her 2 children and 3 grand children throughout Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, The Bahamas, Disney World and Universal. She was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and attended many of their football games.
Survivors include son Fred (Michelle) of Orlando Florida; daughter Cheryl of Urbandale; three grandchildren , Andrew Lounsberry of New York City, and twin granddaughters Stephanie and Valarie Lounsberry of Orlando Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, parents and two brothers, Virgil and Harold.
