Elwin Laverne Pearey
May 25, 1934 - June 6, 2011Elwin Laverne Pearey, 77 of Nevada, passed away on Monday June 6, 2011 at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames with his loving family by his side. Visitation will be held on Friday June 10th from 5-7 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at the Palestine Lutheran Church in Huxley on Saturday June 11th at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Burling officiating.
Elwin was born in Pisgah, Iowa to Vernie and Lou (Stolley) Pearey on May 25, 1934. He attended grade school and Cambridge and graduated from Huxley High School in 1952. Soon after he was out of school he joined the Navy and proudly served our nation. Once returning home from the service Elwin re-joined his parents on the family's farm and began his long career as a farmer. Elwin married the love of his life, Lenore Ritter in 1956 in Princeton Missouri. To this union two children were born.
Elwin was a member of the Tractor Pulling Association and enjoyed his time traveling with his pulling tractor.
He had a great love for his family, working the land, raising livestock, dancing with Lenore, operating the farm corporation, and talking with friends and stranger.
Elwin was a great entrepreneur and a big teddy bear that will be missed by many. Those immediate relatives that are left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Lynn Ann Pearey of Des Moines; son Steven Pearey of Cambridge; step-son Raymon Greenwood of Boone; step-daughter Linda Greenwood Robinson of Cambridge; many grandchildren; four sisters Bertha (Bob) Cerretti, Geraldine Kaldenberg, Barbara Reel, and Helen (Rolland) Rehor; brother-in-law Howard Kilburn; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Keith Pearey, two sisters Lona O'Mara and Josephine Kilburn, and 3 brother-in-laws Neal O'Mara, Dick Kaldenburg, and Dr. Richard Reel.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Palestine Lutheran Church in Huxley, Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, or the Cambridge Fire and First Responders in Cambridge.Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Elwin and his family.
