Elizabeth Ann Nerness
September 13, 1933 - August 12, 2011

Elizabeth "Betty" Nerness, 77 of Huxley and formerly of Cambridge, went to the place that Jesus prepared for her on Friday, August 12, 2011 while in the care of Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be held at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge on Monday, August 15, 2011 beginning at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to the funeral at the church.

Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Nerness was born in Maxwell on September 13, 1933 to Fred and Fern (Patterson) Burgess. She attended Maxwell Community School and graduated high school in 1952. Betty attended Southern State Teachers College in Springfield South Dakota for one year, and went on to teach in at one room school house where she taught 10 children. Following her teaching internship, Betty returned to college and earned her teaching certificate.

She married Robert Nerness on September 22, 1956 and seven children blessed this union.

Betty liked reading books, reciting poems, spending time with her friends and family, wildflowers and nature. She always held dear the time she spent with her Mother, and one of her best friends Pat Clawson.

Those left to cherish her loving memories are her children; Arlyss (Mike) Peterson, Frank (Pam) Nerness, Marge Nerness, Martha (Gary) Carney, Debbie Nerness, and Stacey Nerness; grandchildren, Eric Peterson, Jayna (Wade) Grauerholz, Jake Peterson, Chad Overmire, Kasey Overmire, Nick Nerness, Shelby Nerness, Cody Carney, Katelynn Carney, Stephanie Carney, Tim Nerness, Kylee Schulte, and Brendan Schulte; great-grandchild, Kourtney Overmire; siblings, Jean See, Francis Cram, and Jim (Kay) Burgess; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Carol; granddaughter Jordan; and her sister Irene in childhood.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Betty and her family.
