Obituary

Helen E. Larson, 87, of Ames, died Sunday, June 5, 2011 at the Madrid Home in Madrid. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, June 18 at the Madrid Home. A private burial service for the immediate family will be held at a later date in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Helen was born on May 7, 1924 to Henry and Esther (Lovig) Johnson, in Ellsworth, Iowa. She was raised on a farm near Randall and graduated from Randall Consolidated High School in 1941.

She married Lester Larson on February 25, 1946 in Long Beach, California. They were long-time residents of Ames. During those years, she enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, and spending time with family and grandchildren.

Helen is survived by two daughters, Terry (Don) Van Houweling, of Perry, and Sharon (Joe) Colletti, of Ames; one son, Mark Larson, of Ames; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lester; her parents; and two brothers, Harold and Laverne Johnson.
