Obituary

Quinn Francis Boylston, 7, of Ames, surrounded by his loving family, returned to the arms of the Lord on Friday, September 2, 2011 at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. For the past 5 months, Quinn courageously battled brainstem cancer and has touched thousands of people. We are very blessed by the loving community that has surrounded Quinn and our family. We have seen a miracle – that miracle was Quinn – his fight, his love, his inspiration and his life. Quinn's Quest continues – please light a candle for Quinn and keep him in your prayers.

Quinn's family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 8 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 4 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames (2900 Hoover Ave).. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the church on Friday, Sept. 9 at 10:30 a.m., preceded by a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Father James Secora will preside at the Mass. Burial will follow in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Quinn Boylston was born October 2, 2003 in Ames to Latinus (Eddie) and Terri (Drumm) Boylston Jr. He was in the second grade at Sawyer School. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and inspired many by his strong faith and love of God. He was a member of the Ames Minor Hockey Association Mites Team, Mets Little League Team, and the Sawyer Park and Recreation Soccer Team.

He is survived by his parents, Latinus (Eddie) and Terri Boylston; brother, Orion; and sister, Payton, and devoted dogs, Mia and Puppy, all of Ames; paternal grandmother, Eileen Boylston, of Carriere, Mississippi; maternal grandparents, Donald and Arlene Drumm, of Davenport; paternal great grandmother, Marie Kelly of Carriere, Mississippi; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Latinus Boylston, Sr.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Fund at the University of Iowa Foundation for Pediatric Brainstem Tumor Research (P.O. Box 4550, Iowa City, Iowa, 52244), Ronald McDonald House Charities, St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, or Sawyer Elementary School.
