Obituary

Lyle Edward Stoops passed away October 16, 2011 at Marshalltown Medical Center.

Lyle was born in Ames, Iowa on September 26th 1924, to Francis and Echo Stoops. He grew up in Ames, Iowa. At the age of 17 Lyle joined the Marine Corp and served in the South Pacific. Lyle loved the Corps and was awarded the Silver star for saving the life of a corpsman while serving.

After returning from the service he graduated from Ames High School. Lyle was married to Marilyn Joyce Minson in 1946. Lyle was employed as a meat cutter at the Fareway Grocery Store in Ames and in the food service department at Iowa State University. Later Lyle worked as a clerk in the maintenance department at Iowa State University. He retired from that position in 1988.

Throughout his married years and after retirement, he enjoyed camping with his family at Twin Anchors in Colo, Iowa, and wintering in Pharr, Texas with his wife. As his grandchildren grew up, he became an avid fan and cheerleader for all of their sports and activities.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Raymond Stoops and his wife of 62 years, Marilyn Stoops.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Enslow; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kathi Stoops; grandchildren, Allison (David) Wise, Danielle (Brad) Burnett, Timothy Stoops, Eric Enslow and great grandsons, Henry and Samuel Wise.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 19 from 5 to 7pm at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, Oct. 20 at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
