Obituary

Gordon Austin Murray, 80, died on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Abington on Grand.

Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Heartland Baptist Church, 3504 Grand Avenue, in Ames, IA with Rev. Randy Abell, Senior Pastor and Darrell DeRadcliffe, Elder Care Pastor, officiating. Burial of the cremains will be in the New Tacoma Cemetery, Tacoma, WA at a later date.

Born in Glendale, CA on August 31, 1931

Died in Ames, IA October 16, 2011

Worked for Boeing in Renton, WA for (over 30 years) as a machinist

Lived in Tacoma, WA for approximately 60 years

Had a farm in Sumner, WA
Raised Black Angus cows, had milk cows, pigs, chickens, dogs & cats

He enjoyed bird hunting when he was younger

Was stationed in Germany when he was in the Army during the Korean War.

Never had children of his own, but he loved each of his nieces & nephew as if we were his children.

Preceded in death by his mother, Gertrude (Austin) Murray, his father Clyde Elwell Murray, his older brother, Ralph Gifford Murray, and his only nephew, Ralph Scott Murray.

Marriage once briefly that ended in divorce

Last time we (Nina & Corajayne - his surviving nieces) were with him, we sat across the table at the nursing home from him. He shook his head and all he could say was, "what a lucky, lucky man I am". For all the pain and sorrow our Uncle experienced in his life, he was one to always see the glass half-full and to count his blessings.

He taught us how to be around animals. That has influenced us our whole lives. He was delighted with us, always excited
to see us. His love was constant, genuine, and without "strings".

He loved the people at Heartland Baptist Church. He spoke of how kind they were toward him and how much he appreciated each one.

Good-bye, Uncle Gordie. We will always love you, (Nina & Corajayne - his surviving nieces)
