Robert E. Alexander
July 10, 1936 - April 25, 2012
ObituaryRobert "Bob" Eugene Alexander, 75, of Gilbert, died on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at his home. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 at Stevens Memorial Chapel on Saturday with burial of cremated remains following at Story Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A public visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. on Friday at the funeral home.
Bob was born on July 10, 1936 in Lamoni, the son of Robert and Leota Stanley Alexander and graduated from Keokuk High School in 1954. On Dec. 31, 1958, he married Luvina Randolph in Kahoka, Mo. Bob had worked many jobs in the Gilbert area including being a custodian at the high school and driving a school bus. He had also worked construction and had worked at Blacks and Sons Elevator in Kelley. He retired as a custodian at Iowa State University in 2002. Bob loved to fish the Mississippi River and in local farm ponds. He also enjoyed three trips to Germany.
Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lu, of Gilbert; sons, David (Gundel) Varner, of Gilbert, Robert (Carol) Alexander Jr., of Boone, Albert Alexander, of Albany, Mo. and Jay Alexander, of Boone; daughters, Linda (Mark) Handsacker, of Des Moines and Luvina Bull, of Gilbert; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and a brother, Bill (Connie) Alexander, of Vermont. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Wickham and Judy Alexander; and a great-grandson, Tyler Jensen.
