Virgil Eugene Auestad
BORN: November 9, 1932
DIED: March 13, 2011
LOCATION: Randall, IowaVirgil Eugene Auestad was born November 9, 1932 on a farm near Radcliffe, Iowa to Rasmus and Agnes P. (Osmundson) Auestad. He graduated Randall High School in 1951 and entered the United States Army in 1952 and served in Germany. Virgil and Karen Knutson were married in 1956 and they enjoyed 54 years of marriage.
Virgil was manager at the Farmers Cooperative Grain Company in Randall and later as assistant manager at Central Iowa Coop in Jewell. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed playing cards and golfing with his friends. He also enjoyed bird watching, woodworking, basketball and he especially loved attending his grandchildren’s events.
Virgil passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames after a 4 year battle with cancer and lung disease at 78 years of age.
Virgil will be greatly missed by his wife Karen Auestad of Randall; his four children, Andrea (Michael) Pollock of Carlisle, Iowa, Todd Auestad of Jewell, Iowa, Tamara (Greg) Polaski of Story City, and Carlene Enderson of Randall; eight grandchildren, Nicholas (Susan) Conner of Altoona, Iowa, Joshua (Erica) Conner of Grimes, Iowa, Necole (Loren) Nicholls of Ames, Chad Auestad of Ames, Tanner Enderson of Randall, Ross Enderson of Randall, Schyler Polaski of Story City, and Kelsey Polaski of Story City; one great-grandson Jack Conner of Altoona; one brother Roger (Charlotte) Auestad of Story City; two sisters, Marguerite Hetland of Story City and Julie (Jack) Roney of Holiday Island, Arkansas; and sister-in-law Doris Knutson of New Orleans, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Janet Auestad; two brothers-in-law, William Hetland and A. E. Knutson; and his granddaughter Payton Polaski.
Memorials may be designated to Elim Lutheran Church or for designation by the family.
