Paul F. Mabee

BORN: July 18, 1940
DIED: April 23, 2011
LOCATION: Story City, Iowa

Paul Frank Mabee was born in Des Moines, Iowa on July 18, 1940 to Wilmott and Margaret (Moburg) Mabee. Paul grew up in Gowrie and graduated Gowrie High School in 1958. He attended Linotype School in Charles City, Iowa.

On July 7th, 1959 Paul married Carolyn Johnson. They have four children, Mark (Michele) Mabee, Marty Mabee, Melissa (Scott) Swanson, and Marcia Mabee; and three grandchildren, Morgan Swanson, Matt Swanson, and Mason Mabee. Paul and Carolyn lived most of their married life in Story City, over 45 years in the same home.

He worked as a Linotype operator in Osceola, Nebraska, the Story City Herald, the Ames Tribune and Carter Press in Ames. Paul was a salesman for Gookin Ford and several machine tool distributors. He owned and operated Story Lanes and Machine Tool Sales in Story City. Paul was a volunteer fireman with the Story City Fire Department of over 25 years.

Paul enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s activities, camping, boating, fishing, traveling, feeding the birds, golfing and hunting. He and Carolyn took many wonderful trips together traveling in their motor home. Paul and his dog Twinki had a special bond and spent their days together.

Paul was an avid collector of Red Wing and Fort Dodge Stoneware and had a large collection of crocks, churns, and water coolers. He also collected old bikes and had restored a bike like his first childhood bicycle.

Paul F. Mabee, 70, of Story City, Iowa, died April 23, 2011 at Bethany Manor in Story City.

Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Van Fleet; his father, Wilmott Mabee; his stepfather, Rex Van Fleet, a granddaughter Ashley Mabee; and his dog Abby.
