Karen Ann Tjelmeland
May 22, 1946 - June 18, 2012Karen Ann Tjelmeland, 66 of Nevada died on Monday, June 18, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 22 in the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada with Pastor David Burling officiating. Burial of the cremains will be held in the Roland Cemetery.
Karen was born on May 22, 1946 in Jefferson to Charles and Agnes (Fogle) Jacobson. She was a 1964 graduate of Glidden High School. On May 1, 1992, Karen was united in marriage to Carrol A. Tjelmeland in Des Moines, IA. She retired in September of 2009 from GFS of Nevada. Karen was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church and the Wednesday morning girl's coffee group. She enjoyed gardening, oil painting, making jewelry, knitting, watching all sport activities (even NASCAR). Karen was an avid ISU fan.
Karen is survived by her husband Carrol of Nevada; children Korine Nelson of West Des Moines, IA, Chad (Stacey) Nelson of Nevada, Brent (Sara) Tjelmeland of Atkins and Kari (Courtney) Pecenka of Van Meter; three grandchildren Ryan, Owen, and Stella Tjelmeland; two sisters Kay (John) Mortimer of Dallas Center and Betty Jacobson of Nokomis, FL.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Barb Elliott in April of 1998.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 21 from 4-6:00 p.m. again at Memorial Lutheran Church.
Memorials may be directed in loving memory of Karen to the American Lung Association or the Memorial Lutheran Church Sunday School Program.
Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Karen and her family.
