Jean Ann Carpenter

BORN: July 13, 1945

DIED: August 31, 2011

LOCATION: Roland, Iowa

After winning battles with breast cancer and ovarian cancer (twice), Jean Ann (Twedt) Carpenter lost her 18 month battle with brain cancer on August 31, 2011, at Israel Family Hospice House at the age of 66.

Jean was born on July 13, 1945, to Leslie and Irene (Sevold) Twedt. She graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1963 and Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing in 1967. On June 4, 1966, she was married to Gary Carpenter in Roland and together they raised two children, Kevin and Kim.
Jean was a dedicated and passionate nurse for 43 years, 34 of which were at McFarland Clinic in Ames. She loved nursing and in her spare time she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, and shopping.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Irene Twedt; sister-in-law, Delores Pittman; and brother-in-law, Jerry Pittman. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Gary; son, Kevin (Michelle) Carpenter, Story City; daughter, Kim (Jamie) Peterson, Ankeny; grandchildren, Mikayla and Alexis Carpenter and Emma and Paige Peterson; brother, Don (Karen) Twedt, Ames; sister-in-law, Joann Carpenter, Denver, CO; many nieces and nephews, and many beloved friends.

Jean was a lifelong member of Bergen Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. She courageously fought many battles with cancer, always with her strong faith, strength, and perseverance.

Memorial contributions may be made to Israel Family Hospice House, Bergen Lutheran Church, or the American Cancer Society.
