DIED: February 18, 2012
LOCATION: Ames, Iowa
Margaret Mary Gilmore Dickinson passed away at Mary Greeley Hospital on February 18, 2012. She was born to Harry and Anna Dickinson on March 22, 1918 and grew up in Houlton, Maine. She graduated from St. Francis Xavier College in Nova Scotia in 1939.
Margaret met her husband, Arthur Gilmore, while they were both serving in the Army in 1944. They were married in February, 1945. For most of their adult lives Margaret and Art lived in Coatesville, Pennsylvania where Margaret taught English, Mathematics and Latin in middle school. They enjoyed square dancing and playing cards. A few years after Art's death in 2003 Margaret moved to Ames. She continued to play cards and very much enjoyed her new friends while staying in touch with longtime friends and family members across the country.
Margaret is survived by her sister Katherine Maskulak of Pensacola, Florida, her daughters Nancy Woodruff of Morgantown, Pennsylvania, Mary Buchanan of East Haddam, Connecticut, and Joan Hopper of Ames, Iowa. Margaret also had five grandchildren (Brian Woodruff, Erin Polechek, Megan Curran, Amanda Hopper and John Hopper) and two great grandchildren (Hanna and Grace Polechek)
Margaret was a devoted friend, loving Mother and a devout Catholic. She will be at rest with Art at Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania National Military Cemetery.
