Clyde Melvin Richards

BORN: November 30, 1926

DIED: April 5, 2012

LOCATION: Ames, Iowa

Clyde Melvin Richards was born November 30, 1926 to George and Jesse (Peterson) Richards in Floyd County, Iowa. He graduated from West High School in Waterloo, Iowa and then served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 during WWII. Clyde and Eleanor Reiff were married June 20, 1948 in Waterloo. He worked as a police officer in Waterloo for eleven years. Clyde was at ISU Credit Union for 25 years, retiring in 1993 as CEO.

Clyde was active in many Ames community organizations, including Ames Kiwanis, the Ames Foundation, Boy Scouts of America, the American Legion, Toastmasters, Junior Achievement and Special Olympics. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening – really anything outdoors, bowling, and spending time with friends and family. Clyde was a friend to everyone, a good Samaritan, and most of all, a good husband, father and grandfather.

Clyde passed away Thursday, April 5 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames at 85 years of age.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Richards of Ames; two daughters, Kathy Killion and Jane (Denny) Hinman, both of Ames; his sister, Norma Crisman of Waterloo; his grandson Gabriel (Anna) Richards and step great-grandchildren Brittany, River and Stormy; his granddaughter Jessica (Curt) Van Maarn; and his daughter-in-law Donna (Ralph) Oliver of Cambridge.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; his son George Richards; and his brother Gordon Richards.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Israel Family Hospice House.
