Roger Keith Hillis

BORN: September 28, 1953

DIED: May 10, 2012

LOCATION: Story City, Iowa

Roger Hillis, 58, of Marshalltown, formerly of Byron, Illinois, passed away May 10, 2012. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 14th at Grace United Methodist Church in Story City. Burial will be in the Gilbert Cemetery. There will be a visitation of family and friends from 6 to 8 on Sunday, May 13th at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

Roger Hillis was born September 28, 1953 to Donald and Isabelle (Brooks) Hillis in Ames, Iowa. He graduated from Roland-Story in 1973 and attended Ellsworth Jr. College. He served 5 years in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam era. After his discharge, he graduated from Iowa State University and worked at Meredith in Des Moines and Quebecor World in Mt. Morris, Illinois. He sang in the church choir and enjoyed water sports, fishing and golf. He was proud of his children.

Roger is survived by his mother Isabelle Hillis; his sons David and Donald; his daughters Rebecca and Sarah; two grandchildren, Mia and Rylee; his sisters Barb (Dave) Owenson and Pam Horan; his nephews Jeff and Michael; and his niece Megan.

He was preceded in death by his father Donald; his nephew Jason; and his grandparents.
