From Nevada Representative June 27, 1877

On Friday, a deaf and dumb boy, son of Mr. Sebastian, who lives on Mr. A. J. Reed's place about three miles southeast of town, was killed on the railroad track just west of Indian creek bridge. He was returning from the Deaf and Dumb Asylum of Council Bluffs, together with several others, but owing to the break in the railroad, all the passengers were delayed at Boone waiting for repairs. He being so near home started on foot along the track for Nevada, and when within about a mile of the depot, he was overtaken by a train which was bucking down to the bridge and killed. He was walking just outside the track and was struck by a platform freight car in the head, killing him almost instantly.
