From Ames Intelligencer June 29, 1895

One of the old and much respected citizens of this county died at Ontario early Monday morning, in the person of William H. Foster. The funeral was conducted Tuesday at 12 o'clock by Rev. J. K. Hester in the Christian church at Ontario. Uncle Billy Foster as he was familiarly called, was born at Shenandoah Valley, Va. Oct. 15, 1823. He moved to Marion county, Ind., where he was married to Miss Sarah A. Plummer on March 1, 1854. He and family came to Story county, Iowa in 1858.

There were born to Mr. and Mrs. Foster six children, two sons and four daughters, two of the daughters died when very young, and then Mrs. Eldora Foster Dudley died Jan. 23, 1893. He leaved an estimable Christian wife, two sons, Flavius and William C. Foster, and one daughter, Mrs. Emma Foster Scott, to lament his death.

The old citizen of Story county and the immediate neighbors and friends of Mr. Foster speak in inspiring terms of his character and personal influence. He was looked upon as being a conscientious Christian, a loyal citizen to interest of this country, ever -- in those things which pertain to this life and that which is to come.
