Fatal Accident.
The Chicago & North Western, Omaha & Chicago fast freight No. 126 at 9:45 last evening, struck a buggy at Ames occupied by Mrs. J. T. White and her two daughters Hazel aged eight and Sadie aged eighteen as they were returning home in the edge of town from church. Mrs. White with her younger daughter was in the front seat and other daughter Sadie was in the rear.
The buggy was struck and Mrs. White was thrown through the air against a fence at the edge of the right of way and very badly injured while Hazel escaped uninjured. Sadie was struck and carried over a mile to the east of the city where her lifeless body was found terribly mangled, pieces having been scattered all along the way. The train was flagged at this city and the engine crew and conductor McKay were surprised to hear of the accident.
The buggy was totally demolished, pieces of it together with parts of clothing and robes being found on the engine pilot at this city eight miles away. The women were placed in the charge of Dr. Templeton of Ames. Sadie was the niece of C. P. McCord of this city.
