From Story County Watchman January 19, 1906

A horrible accident occurred at Mackey Saturday morning, when in a fearful dynamite explosion, Alvin Nelson, proprietor of a hardware store there, was blown to atoms. No one else was hurt, but the store was completely destroyed by the explosion. The shock was felt for miles around.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: According to WPA Records, Alvin S. Nelson was born on 6 August 1867 and died 13 January 1906 and is buried in West Linwood Cemetery, Boone County, Iowa.
