OBITUARY

JANE MULLEN

DIED: Mrs. Jane Mullen in this city November 28, 1896, after a long and painful sickness, of complication of diseases. Aged 70 years 4 mo. 25 days.

Mrs. Mullen's maiden name was Jane McCormick. She was born in Canton, Stark County, Ohio, on July 3rd 1826. Her parents, being God-fearing people, gave her a good religious training, and also, the advantage of a common school education. Under such influence she grew up to a noble womanhood. When 17 years of age, she gave her heart and life to Christ, as her Savior and Lord, uniting herself to God's people, in the Cumberland Presbyterian church, in which she lived and worked the remainder of her long life except the last two years during which time she held her membership in the Congregational church of this city. With her parents she removed to Carroll County, Indiana in 1841. On the 21st of August, 1845, she was married to Mr. Vincent H. Tindell, who died April 20,1847. She was married to Mr. Wm. G. Mullen January 2nd 1851, who survives her to feel the great loss. In 1855 she with her family removed to Almokee, Co., Iowa, in which state she resided until the family removed to Atwood Ks. Arriving here in January 1886, where she made her home, until called to her abiding in "the City of Gold". For ten years, she has lived among us here, known as a faithful Christian woman.

As the church of her choice was not found here, on September 2nd 1894, she united by letter together with her husband, with the Congregational church, walking faithfully in accord with her covenant vows. Sister Mullen was called to endure a long and tedious illness extending over two years, during this time her sufferings were almost constant, and oftentimes most fearfully excruciation. But during all this time she kept her faith in her Savior and bore her sufferings with patience and Christian
fortitude. She never expressed any doubt concerning her preparation for supernal bliss, or of her hope in Christ; and as she approached at last the Jordan of death the light of the Celestial "shone bright on her vision," and the last days of her life was filled with a joyous prayer "Dear Jesus, come quickly" ending with, "Dear Jesus come running, going, gone." As peacefully as a babe, she fell asleep as God's White Angel, Death gently took her redeemed spirit on his wings and bore her triumphantly to her Savior's bosom. Thus he giveth his beloved sleep."

She left on this earth her husband and live children, to miss the warmth and power of her life. She went to three of her children already in the "Father's Home," who welcome her home and will teach her the songs of the "New Jerusalem." The funeral exercises were held in the Congregational church, on Monday, November 30,1896 at 11 o'clock A. M. where a large
audience composed of her warm friends who came to pay their tribute of respect to her memory. The sermon by the Pastor, was founded upon the 14th verse of the 22nd chapter of Revelations. "Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the City." The choir in a beautiful and impressive manner sang the following selections:

"Farewell I'm Going Home."

"She's Gone."

"Fading Away."
