From Story County Watchman February 6, 1903

Atlantic, Jan. 31.--Today the remains of Prof. I. B. Johnson were taken from this city to Ames. The funeral services were held at the home of his parents. There is movement on foot looking to the appointment of Mrs. Johnson as county superintendent to fill the vacancy of her husband. She has many friends who are anxious that the appointment shall be made.

Mr. Ira Johnson, county supervisor of Cass county, son of W. H. Johnson, died and was buried at Ontario cemetery Sunday. He was a graduate of the I. S. C. He has held a number of prominent offices and was natural instructor in educational work. Ira leaves a wife and one son, father, mother, five sisters, three brothers and a great many friends to mourn his loss. The funeral was one of the largest ever held at this place. People from different states attended it. He was a noted man.
