From Story County Watchman June 6, 1902

Ames Times: ....Fred Wilson was born Jan. 19, 1870, near Gilbert Station, Iowa, where he spent the thirty-two years of his life. On May 8, 1902, while driving to his work in the field, his horses became unmanageable and he was thrown from the disc cultivator in such a way that his spinal cord was injured, resulting in complete paralysis of the body below the shoulders. The funeral services were held in the Congregational churchon Sunday afternoon, after which he was laid to rest in the Gilbert cemetery. There remain his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Wilson, and three sisters to mourn his loss.
