From Story County Watchman November 22, 1901

On Tuesday last Major Potter died at the home of his sister Mrs. Lant. Lockwood, where he and family have been visiting for some time past. He was down town during the morning hours and about four in the afternoon his wife and sister came down town; and returning a little later found him lying upon the floor dead. It was undoubtedly a case of heart failure although but little is known as to the matter farther. He has been somewhat ill for some time past but nothing serious was anticipated. He was to have returned to his home in Denver, Colorado, the coming week where he was an engineer on the Denter & Rio Grand railway. Mr. Potter was born and brought up in this place where he made his home until he went west. The funeral services were held at the residence of Mr. Lockwood by Rev. Sandford after which the remains were taken to his home for interment. Mr. Lant. Lockwood and wife accompanying them, the wife and children, to their home. It is a sad and melancholy ending to what promised a pleasant and enjoyable trip. Our people extend their sympathy to the stricken ones in this their hour of trouble.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: "Lant. Lockwood" was Wallace Alanson Lockwood, husband of Edwina Alice (Potter) Lockwood.
