From Story County Watchman August 11, 1899

DIED.--At his home near Dow City, Iowa, of typhoid fever, Aug. 4, 1899, C. H. A. Davis. He was born in Carroll county, N. H., Feb. 1, 1835 and was united in marriage to Martha A. Allard Oct. 29, 1857. They settled in Warren county, Ill. the same year and resided there until the spring of 1866 when they removed to Story County, Iowa, near the present sight of Collins. In 1883, they moved to Crawford county where they continued to reside until the time of his death. To this union four children were born; John L., and Mrs. Pryor Mackey, both of Glidden, Mrs. Roger Paul of Dow City, and Maggie who died in 1891. The surviving children with wife and husbands and one nephew, D. A. Allard of Nevada, were with thim during the greater part of his illness.

Mr. Davis united with the Baptist church in 1860 but transferred his membership to the M. E. church in 1888. He lived a devoted christian life and will be greatly missed in church circles where he has been a constant worker. He was a man of few faults; even tempered, cheerful and upright, commanding the respect of all who knew him. As a father and husband he was kind and affectionate. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Molesworth, after which his remains were laid to rest by the side of his daughter and aged mother in the Dunlap cemetery, under the auspices of the A. F. & A. M. Lodge.
