In Boone, at 8:00 a. m. Tuesday, occurred the death of Will Taylor, who has for many years been a conductor on the North-Western. He was taken sick Saturday or Sunday with acute stomach trouble and no hopes were entertained for his recovery from the first. Deceased leaves a wife and two children to mourn his death, besides a host of friends in and around Ames.
William Lerno Taylor was born Nov. 25, 1842, in New Milford, Winnebago county, Ill. and died in Boone, June 28, 1898, aged 55 years, 7 months and 3 days. He was married to Emeline Derrigan*, who still survives him, Sept. 13, 1863, in Winnebago conty, Ill. He enlisted in the civil war and served in 92nd Illinois Infantry and was honorably discharged at Greensboro, N. C., July 13, 1865. He moved to Nevada, Iowa, in 1868, moved to Ames in 1884 at which place he lived util the time of his death. Commenced work for C. & N. W. R. R. Co. in 1870, was a member of Arcadia lodge No. 249, A. F. & A. M. of Ames was a Royal Arch Mason and was a member of Excaliber Commandery No. 13, of Boone and Elkader Temple of Cedar Rapids and Ames Lodge No. 309, I. O. O. F. Ames, Iowa. While on his regular run west from Clinton to Boone Sunday morning Conductor W. L. Taylor was taken suddenly will when his train was near, and died in Boone Tuesday morning at 8:45. His health has been poor for many years but his sudden death caused a great shock to his family and many friends. He had been in the steady employ of the C. & N. W. R. R. Co. for twenty-eight years, nearly all the time as a conductor, the last few years being on the regular trains, running between Clinton and Boone. Conductor Taylor was a man who made fast friends wherever he went and his pleasant manner and accomodating ways were often spoken of by travelers with whom he came in contact. His funeral was held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, from the house. Arcadia Lodge No. 259, A. F. A. M. had charge and were assisted by Excalibur Commandery, No. 13 of Boone and Ames Lodge No. 309, I. O. O. F. Ames, Iowa. President Beardshear of I. A. C. preached the funeral sermon.
