From Story County Watchman May 20, 1898

Jane Hilton, a young lady of Cambridge, was so severely burned Monday afternoon that death was the result in a short time. Her dress caught fire from a bonfire in the yard of M. F. King. The clothes of the girl were burned off her before the fire could be smothered. She was about seventeen years, and the sudden death has cast a gloom over the community, and all extend to the family of Mr. Hilton their sympathy at the bereavement. She only lived a few hours after the accident, thus releiving her from much suffering.
