Colo Watchman

Mr. Simmons, an old and respected citizen of this township, died Tuesday night. The funeral will be held Friday. A biographical sketch will appear next week.

From Story County Watchman February 19, 1897

Austin Simmons was born October 2, 1829 at Decater, Otsego county, New York. On Oct. 12, 1851, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Westinghouse in the town of Parish, Oswego county, New York. One child was born to them of this union, Charlotte* Bartlett, who with her mother are now left to mourn. The funeral service was conducted by Elder Gilchrist assisted by Rev. Wilkins, of Colo, in the church of Christ in the presence of a large audience of sympathiling friends, after which the body was laid to rest in the Colo cemetery.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: I believe this should be "Valetta" Bartlett not "Charlotte", wife of Everett Edward Bartlett, referred to in most censuses as Letta or Lettie.
