From Story County Watchman December 18, 1896

After an illness of short duration Uncle Jacob Ray died at the home of his son, near Iowa Center, last Thursday evening. About three weeks ago Uncle Jake was stricken with paralysis, death finally resulting. He was a very hale old gentleman and although he lived to be 62 years of age he had never known a day's sickness in all that time until last September. He enjoyed the love of his children and other relatives and the respect of all who knew him. The funeral occurred on Saturday, Rev. Force conducting the services. The remains were interred in the cemetery at Iowa Center.
