Slater News: ....Mrs. Johanna Hougan, wife of Mr. Lars Hougan, of this place, died Saturday evening October 10, 1896, after a lingering illness from consumption. Deceased was born on a farm by the name Opstvedt, in Skaanevig, Prestegjeld, Norway, July 4, 1842, came to America in 1867, and was married to Lars Hougan the same year. Nine children were born to this union, who are all living and were present at the funeral. She also besides her husband leaves four step children.
