He came to Illinois in 1845 and remained there until the year 1889, when he came to Iowa to make his home with his sister, Mrs. W. R. Finley, four miles south-east of Nevada. Her death occurred in Nov. 1890, and he continued to reside with the children in the old home until his death, which took place, Jan. 2, 1895. The funeral was held in Mullen Settlement on the 3rd inst. and conducted by Rev. Ferguson, assisted by Rev. Force. Mr. J. was an inoffensive man and very highly esteemed by those who knew him. Being a cripple, and well advanced in years, he seldom went from home. Although he had no family of his own, yet he is sincerely mourned by the relatives in this part of the country.
