From Story County Watchman December 1, 1893

At his home near Zearing Daniel D. Shaw died on the 2nd inst., aged 56 years. He was a member of the 2nd Indiana cavalry and served with distinction during the rebellion. The services were held under the directions of the G. A. R. Zearing and the other services were conducted by Rev. Golden, and the remains were enterred in the Zearing cemetery.
