From Story County Watchman February 21, 1890

George S. Wells died at his home about one mile south of Maxwell, on Friday morning February 14th, 1890, after a long illness. The funeral took place on Sabbath, 16th. The remains were taken in charge by the Odd Fellows, and borne to the Presbyterian Church at 11 a. m. Beautiful music was furnished by the choir. Rev. Nichol and Doty offered the prayers; Rev. Throckmorton read the scriptures and Rev. R. A. Ferguson delivered the discourse. The church was packed, and many could not find room in the house. A long procession of Odd Fellows then escorted the remains to the cemetery, west of Peoria City, where the beautiful service was impressively read by J. W. Maxwell, Esq., for Social Lodge No. 463, of which Mr. Wells was a member. Odd Fellows were present from Nevada, Cambridge, Collins and other places. A widow and three small children survive.
