From Story County Watchman February 6, 1885

DIED:--On Tuesday morning, P. D. Morris, a former habitant of this locality, and reported as from Cambridge, this county, was found dead, having fell down a flight of basement steps, in Des Moines. It is supposed that he was drunk at the time. He had been drinking heavily for some time, and that conclusion is but natural. Death was instantaneous. The coroner held an inquest, and found upon his person, handkerchiefs, gloves, $4.55 in money, an order from Geo. E. Waud of Cambridge, on Chas. Hewitt, of Des Moines, for groceries, a watch, memorandum book, and other articles. Mr. Morris, was about 55 years of age. The remains were buried on Tuesday afternoon.
