From Story County Watchman June 15, 1883

The first of the week a party calling himself, Geo. F. Hollis, Plainsman and Poet, was taken suddenly ill and was taken care of by the authorities. He was sent to the Poor Farm, where he died on Tuesday last. Where he was from or what he was, is unknown.

From Story County Watchman June 22, 1883

Rumor, coming from a reliable source, gives the outcome of the burial of the body of Hollis, at the Poor Farm last week, as not strictly in accord with "public opinion," even though it may be conducive to science. To say the least it is a nice "pickle!" Was it alcohol!

Then later on on the same page:

The wee-wee children say that the body of Hollis was delivered to the Iowa College of Physicians and Surgeons "by Mr. Horst, under authority of sec. 4018 Code of Iowa, and without any order form the Board." That does not give Mr. Horst, any authority to so act and we understand he denies doing so. The b. s.* have charge of the Poor Farm are supposed to run it.

* The term b. s. refers to Board of Supervisors.
