From Ames Intelligencer June 24, 1886

Obituary.

Cavalry Ross died June 20th, 1886, and was buried June 22d, at Ontario, being the first to be called from a family of eight. Mr. Ross was born in Gallia Co. Ohio, April 24, 1824. He removed to Porter Co., Indiana, when he was young, and was united in marriage to Mary Beadle September 23, 1848, and removed to Iowa in 1854, where he bought and improved the farm on which he died, and where his bereaved widow still lives. He was one of the principal donors to the Christian Church at Ontario. Being an industrious and prudent farmer, he was successful in life, and leaves his family in good circumstances. His honest integrity and general interest in the good of others wond the admiration of the entire community, and it sincerely regrets his departure. A wife and seven children remain to mourn their sad loss.

Having been for forty-eight years a faithful and humble follower of Jesus of Nazareth and for fifteen years a victim of disease, he has gone to his peaceful rest, where he awaits us. May we all be so fortunate as to meet him on the other side of the dark river where death is a stranger and where friends never part.
