From Story County Watchman March 11, 1881
DIED.
In Nevada, Iowa, Sunday evening March 6, 1881, Melvin M. Bunce son of D. J. and Marinda Bunce.
Melvin Bunce was born in Whiteside county, Ill. Nov. 24, 1858. While he was in infancy his parents removed to Iowa and he had been a resident of this State ever since. For somewhat over a year he had resided in Nevada, and was employed in the store of Zwilling Brothers. Though his residence here has been short he has many friends in Nevada.
His last illness was lingering and painful yet he bore his sufferings with much patience. The last day of his sickness he suffered much pain, but for the last three hours was quite easy and finally expired without a struggle as though falling asleep. He is mourned by his family as a dutiful and affectionate son and brother and a large circle of friends sympathize with them deeply in their loss.
Dr. Bunce and his family desire to express their heartfelt thanks to the many friends who have showed so much kindness both to them and the departed.
We only know that thou hast gone
And that the same returnless tide
That bore thee from us still glides on
And we, who mourn thee, wish it glide.I shall know the loved who have gone before,
And joyfully sweet will the meeting be
Which over the river, the peaceful river,
The angel of death shall carry me.
