A Pioneer Teacher Dies

Miss Emmaline M. Chamberlain died Thursday, December 21, at her home in Ames, aged 81 years, and funeral service is conducted at the residence this morning by Rev. O. H. Cessna of Iowa State College.

Miss Chamberlain was a daughter of prominent Methodist minister, Rev. Wyatt Chamberlain of Toledo, Canada. There she grew to womanhood and taught school, and came in 1869, with her brother E. R. Chamberlain, to Ames where and in the vicinity she taught many years. She afterwards taught some time and was four years a county superintendent of Chaffee county Colorado, thus rounding out a service of 35 years in school work. She was a strong character, possessed of decided convictions and personal charm and forceful in moral, and spiritual as well as educational development, and association with her in the early days of Story county teachers' institutions was productive of regard which has been unwavering. Her sister, Mrs. Belle Chamberlain French, her companion in thos institutes, survives her, as does her brother, Mr. Van Chamberlain, both of Ames, and also remoter relatives.
