PIONEER OF AMES RELIEVED BY DEATH
HENRY H. HOLDRIDGE LONG TIME RESIDENT OF CITY DIED LAST SATURDAY
After intense and long drawn out suffering from enlargement of the liver, Henry H. Holdridge succumbed last Saturday at his home two miles north of Ames. His death, while not entirely unexpected, was quite a shock to his many friends. The funeral services were held from the home Monday afternoon, Rev. Caul having charge of the services and burial taking place in the Ames cemetery. The funeral was largely attended by the many friends of Mr. Hildridge and the family.
Mr. and Mrs. Holdridge are old settlers in this vicinity coming here about forty years ago, and living here ever since. They were blessed with nine children, five surviving thir father, three of whom live near here.
Obituary
Henry H. Hildridge was born in Bridgeport, Vermont on January 14, 1843 and passed away at his home north form Ames on August 8, 1914, at the age of 71 years, 6 months and 24 days. He came to Morrison, Ill., when he was about twenty one years of age.
He was married to Nellie Holdridge of Morrison, Ill., on July 4, 1873. Forty years ago, shortly after his marriage he came to Ames, Iowa and settled with his family. He has lived in this community ever since. He has been a hard working man and is recognized as an industrious, upright citizen.
Nine children were born into his home, five of whom survive. They are Ora and William who live near Ames, Mrs. Paul Paulson of Huron, S. D., Mrs. C. W. Cooper of Blue Island, Ill., and Miss Sadie who lives at home. They together with the companion of his life, five grandchildren and other more distant relatives mourn the loss of a kind and loving father and husband and grandfather.
The funeral services were held Monday at the home and were attended by a large number of sympathizing friends and neighbors. Burial in the Ames cemetery.
Mr. Holdridge has been in poor health for some time and for the past few weeks has been an intense sufferer.
