OBITUARY.
DIED--In this city, on Thursday evening, Oct. 30th, of consumption, Rev. W. S. Bates, aged 64 years.
Mr. Bates has been an intense sufferer for a long time. His malady, consumption, has been gradually undermining his constitution and finally completed its work last Thursday night.
The deceased was born in Madison county, Ohio, in 1815, where he lived until 1846, when he came to Illinois, and has since lived in various places in Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska, failing health having induced him to change his residence a number of times. He was a minister, believing and preaching the Universalist doctrine. He was known to be a man of strict integrity, kind hearted and sociable and was respected by all who knew him. In addition, he was a man of much force both mentally and morally. He was a Mason in good standing, having belonged to that order for more than thirty years. He leaves a family consisting of a wife and three children, who knew the husband and parent's real worth and who therefore greatly mourn his demise.
The people of this community sympathize with them in their bereavement, and have done all that human friendship and help could do to alleviate their sorrow.
