Final Rites for Mrs. Lars Peterson

Funeral services for Mrs. Lars Peterson were held last Friday, with a short services in the Sunset home in Story City. The audience sang two verses of "Jesus Lover of My Soul," accompanied at the piano by Mrs. P. M. Fjare of Volin, S.D., after which Paster Rorem gave a short message based on Philippians 2:12, "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." Mrs Peterson, nurse at the home, sang a favorite song "Den Storoe Hvide Flok Vi Se," which she sang for Mrs. Peterson a short time before she passed away. A nephew, Rev. P. M. Fjare of Volin, S.D. spoke briefly expressing his appreciation and thanks to the members and friends of the home for their many kind words and visits that had been made for his aunt during her stay in the home. The services closed by singing the last two verses of "Jesus Lover of My Soul." The remains were then taken to Huxley where services were held in the Fjeldberg Lutheran church of which Mrs. Peterson was a member.

At the opening of the service, Mrs. Orland Fjelland, organist, played several favorite hymns. The services were in charge of Rev. P. M. Fjare. A solo, "No Night There," was sung by Mrs. LaVerne Richardson of Kelley followed by the reading of several scripture passages and prayer by Rev. Fjare. Mrs. Selmer Westvold of Huxley sang "Behold the Host." Rev. Fjare chose for his text Romans 1:16-17, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, the just shall live by faith." A vocal duet, "Face to Face" was sung by Mrs. Edith Zimmerman and Mrs. Dorothy Cline, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Darlene Hines. Mrs. Peterson was laid to rest in the Fjeldberg cemetery beside her husband. "Rock of Ages" was sung by a group at the graveside. There were many floral offerings and gifts to the Sunset home, Sudan mission and Home missions in memory of Mrs. Peterson.

Although Mrs. Peterson had no children of her own, she was blessed with the privelege of caring for her husband's children by a previous marriage, also the children of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kennedy with whom she lived for many years. She loved children. Her many friends will miss her and not least by her relatives. She is not with us any more but we have reasons to believe that for her to die was gain. Blessed be her memory. Casket bearers were nephews and grandsons: Henry and Milford Nelson of Albert Lea, Minn., Milford Fjare, Leonard Peterson and Ronald Thompson of Ames and Lawrence Kennedy of Kelley.

Ingeborg Peterson, daughter of Gunder Gunderson Fjare and Guro Larsdatter, was born Sept. 26, 1855, in Skaanevik, Norway. She was baptized in the Akre church in Norway, Oct. 21, 1855 and confirmed in the same church, Oct. 10, 1869. She came to American in 1880 and lived for a while near New Sharon, Ia., later moving to Huxley, where she married Lars Peterson, the same year. They lived for a while in Huxley, later moving to the community of Kelley where they resided for many years. Mr. Peterson preceded her in death Apr. 1, 1942. She continued to live in Kelley with a granddaughter, Mrs. Roy Kennedy, until she moved to the Sunset home in Story City, Oct. 12, 1944, where she made her home until her death, Nov. 2, 1948, which occurred at 12:30 a.m. Her death was caused by a heart ailment which she had been suffering with from time to time the past several months, but was not bedfast until the past two weeks when she remained in her bed most of the time and received the best of care by those in the home. She reached the age of 93 years, 1 month and 8 days. She leaves to cherish her memory Mrs. Rachel Michaelson and William L. Peterson both of Ames, also several nephews, Rev. P. M. Fjare, Volin, S.D.; Gunder Fjare, Ames; Lloyd Nelson, Minneapolis; Albert, Henry, George, Smith, Nemiah and Milford Nelson; a niece, Mrs. Ole Mirhaelson, all of Albert Lea, Minn., and a host of other relatives and friends. Two step-sons, Tom and Pete, a sister Mrs. N. R. Nelson who lived near Albert Lea, her brother Gunder in Norway and her parents preceded her in death. Many relatives and friends from a distance attended the service.
