Funeral Services Held at Huxley For Lars Peterson
Huxley, April 8--Funeral services for Lars Peterson who passed away Tuesday evening at his home in Kelley, were held at the Fjeldberg church Saturday afternoon following a prayer service at the home. The services opened by singing a hymn, "Jesus Lives" after which Rev. Sampson had scripture reading and prayer. Miss Mae Ford of Ames sang as a solo a favorite Norwegian hymn, "Lov Og Tak Og Erug Are." Miss Gladys Rullestad sang a solo, "It is Well With My Soul." Rev. Sampson was assisted at the services by Rev. E. R. Rorem, of the Lutheran church in Kelley, who had ministered to Mr. Peterson's spiritual needs during the past years, while he was not able to attend services in his own church.
Mr. Peterson who had reached the advanced age of 93 years, was born in Skaanevik, Norway, in the year 1849. He came to this country in 1880 and lived near Ames for some time. He lived in various places in this community and has been a resident of the Kelley neighborhood since 1890. He is survived by his wife, one son, Willie Peterson, and one daughter, Mrs. Rachael Michaelson, both living near Kelley. One son, Pete Peterson, passed away last fall. He also leaves 19 grandchildren.
He was a very faithful member of the Fjeldberg Congregation for many years and was a devout attendant at all church services whenever it was possible for him to be present.
In addition to the floral offerings there were a number of gifts given to the missions in memory of Mr. Peterson.
A letter was read from a nephew Rev. Peter Fjare who lives at a distance and was unable to be present.
Following the services at the church the remains were interred in the Fjeldberg cemetery.
