From The Story County Watchman April 22, 1896
Obituary
Mr. David Danskin died at his late home in Nevada, Iowa, Apr. 16, 1896. The deceased was born at Newburgh, N. Y. Oct. 19, 1836, being 59 year, 5 months and 28 days old. He came to Story county in 1866 and had been a resident of the county since 1872. Mr. Danskin began life in the home of good parents and early learned the lessons of labor and thrift. By hard work and close economy he saved the fruit of his toil and invested it in Story county land. The beautiful farm which he leaves behind him he regarded as a sample of what an industrious man might accomplish in this fair State. In this perhaps he was over sanguine of the capabilities of men generally, but he had little patience of the men who complained that there were no opportunities of success within their reach. As a citizen he was a man of decided opinions with great tenacity of character and of so liberal information as to give his views balance and effect. He was true and conscientious in his dealings with men and expected the same from others and solicitous at all times to rectify any wrongs or mistakes he may have committed. Through his life he had not been a professed christian; but some weeks before his death he set himself diligently to seek peace with God and man and surely not in vain. Having found favor with God he received as outward token and acknowledgement of God's acceptance of him, the sacrament of the Holy Communion. He also bore verbal testimony to God's great goodness to him and that he had not found it in his heart to murmur or complain at the divine dispensation. He went peacefully to his eternal rest without a fear or a complaint against the ways of God.
The funeral took place on Saturday April 18, with brief services at the home, and with public services in the M. E. church at Colo. Rev. Horswell preaching the sermon Revs. Shrader and Elliott conducting the devotional exercises. He was laid to rest with the children who had preceded him in the Colo cemetery. The bereaved wife and daughters have the deep sympathy of a very large circle of friends.
Mrs. Danskin and daughters wish to express their sincere thankfulness to all the kind friends, both in Nevada and Colo, for assistance and sympathy during the sickness and at the time of the death of their husband and father.
