Cecil Larson, age 95, of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home died July 25, 2010, at the Home. Funeral services were Thursday, July 29, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the Central Christian Church in Boone with Rev. Paul Fraser officiating. Graveside services and burial was in the Story City Cemetery in Story City.

Cecil was born in Story City on October 19, 1914, the son of Joseph and Margit (Jacobson) Larson. He graduated from Story City High School in 1932. On July 21, 1940, Cecil married Sylvia Case in Boone. Cecil was employed with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 43 years, first as a fireman and then as an engineer, retiring in 1984. After his retirement, he was a volunteer engineer for the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad. Cecil enjoyed playing cards, traveling with his wife, reading, collecting uncirculated coins and first edition stamps, dining out, and spending time with his grandchildren. He served as a deacon of the Central Christian Church of which he was very active. Cecil also was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers #6, the Masons - Mt. Olive Lodge. #79 AF & AM, and the Boone Lions Club.

Cecil is preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

He is survived by a son, Philip of Boone; two daughters, Nancy Lahner and her husband Dave of Boone and Jeanne Quarnstrom; and her husband, Howard of Elkton, Maryland; five grandchildren, Holly Lahner and fiancé Michael Boll of Redondo Beach, California, Nathan Lahner and wife Michelle of Ankeny, Amy. Roden and husband Jon of Boone, Lisa Quarnstrom of West Chester, Pennsylvania, and Jonathan Quarnstrom of Elkton, Maryland; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Molly Roden of Boone; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to the Central Christian Church or the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad.
