ISRAEL D. FAIR

Israel D. Fair, son of John and Emma Fair, was born August 25, 1875, near Newton, Iowa, and died January 19, 1934, at the age of 58 years, 4 months and 25 days. He moved with his parents to the vicinity of Laurel, Iowa, as a small child. Later, in 1880, the family moved onto a farm south of Maxwell where he grew to manhood.

He was united in marriage to Caroline Whitaker February 5, 1902. This union was blessed with three children, all of whom survive him. They are Ross L., of Goldfield, Iowa; Veta and Donald J., of Maxwell. He is also survived by his wife, one grandson, Wendal Ross Fair; one brother, Wesley Fair, of Marengo, Iowa, and three sisters, Mrs. Alex McGuire, of Perry, Iowa; Mrs. Chas. Daily and Mrs. O.L. Candler, both of Denver, Colo. Besides these there are many other relatives and friends. Two sisters preceded him in Death, Dora May Fair and Alberta Heileman.

Mr. Fair spent most of his life in the vicinity of Maxwell. He and his wife lived on a farm northwest of here for a number of years, later moving to Maxwell where they resided until his departure. He had been in poor health since an attack of influenza in 1919. Little by little his vitality gave way until he succumbed to the disease.

As a young lad he was a regular attendant at the M.E. Sunday school in Elwell. Later he was converted in the Evangelical church and united with that denomination at Iowa Center.

Funeral services were held at the home in Maxwell Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, in charge of Rev. W.M. Scheuermann, pastor of the Maxwell M.E. church. A quartet composed of Martin and Walter Troup, Harry Fackler and C.B. French sang three numbers, "The Old Rugged Cross," "Does Jesus Care," and "We’ll Never Say Good-bye in heaven." The pallbearers were M.D. Warner, Wm. Warren, Wm. Richardson, Major R. Dunahoo, Orville Jory and Els Gibson. Interment was in the Iowa Center cemetery.

Out-of-town relatives in attendance at the funeral were: Mr. And Mrs. Alex McGuire, of Perry; Wesley Fair, of Marengo; Mrs. Oliver Titchenor, Mrs. Mary Tichenor, Mr. And Mrs. Geo. Tichenor, of Colo; Kurt Whitaker, of Des Moines, and Ross Fair, of Goldfield.
