UNTITLED
(From unidentified newspaper)
Again that dark visage and shadowy winged visitor, death, whose presence ever causes despair, has visited our neighborhood and taken one of our number away. Mrs. Albert(1) Jones passed from this life on the night of Feb. 11. Fate again seems most cruel for through deaths ministry seven children are left motherless. Mrs. Jones was beloved by all who knew her, a lady whose winning way and warm harted [sic] sympathy won for her the friendship of all. The funeral service was conduced by Rev. Force, at this place on Sunday morning at 11 o’clock.

OBITUARY
(From The "Maxwell (Iowa) Tribune", Feb. 18, 1897)
Mary Eliza, wife of Al Jones died at their residence north of Iowa Center, at 11 P.M. Feb. 11, 1897, aged 35 years, 5 months and 10 days.

The deceased was a daughter of Samuel Whitaker(2), and was born near Iowa Center, August 31, 1861. In this vicinity she grew to womanhood, loved and respected by all who knew her. On April 7, 1878, she was united in marriage to Albert Jones. Nine children were born to them, two of whom, as well as her mother, preceded her to the eternal world.

The deceased was taken with la grippe about three weeks ago. The disease settled in her head about ten days before her death, rendering her partly deaf and sightless, and in this condition she remained until death releaved her intense suffering. The family have the sincere sympathy of the entire community. She leaves a sorrowing husband with seven children, the least a babe of three months which will never know a mother’s love or receive a mother’s smile; also her father, step mother, brother, four sisters and many other relatives survive her.

Funeral services were held from the Evangelical church at Iowa Center, Sunday morning, Feb. 14th, Rev. Force conducting the services. A very large concourse of people assembled to pay their last respects to the memory of the departed one, with whom many of the congregation had grown up from childhood. The remains were laid to rest in the Iowa Center cemetery.

The family and relatives hereby extend their sincere thanks to all who so kindly came to their help during the sickness and death of their loved one.
