(From "Nevada (Iowa) Representative," May 30, 1888)

At the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hoskins(1), between Nevada and Iowa Center, on Thursday, May 24, 1888, Kezia Jones Whitaker, in the 87th year of her age. She was born in Juniate Co., Pa.; married Samuel Whitaker in 1836 (?), came to Iowa in 1855; lived two years in Polk Co.; then came to Story Co, where the remainder of her life was spent, most of the time on the old home place in Nevada Tp. She was left a widow in 1877 by the death of her husband. Three of her children, Thomas (Whitaker), Samuel (Whitaker) and Mrs. Hoskins, live in the old neighborhood. The remaining son, D.J. Whitaker(2) removed to Kansas about one year ago, and was not present at the funeral. She was a good Christian woman, loved by all who knew her. The remains were buried at Iowa Center, sermon by Rev. R.A. Ferguson. Rev. W.J. Hahnn also assisted in the services, which were largely attended.
