THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, July 20, 2010.

Donald DeLoss Appelgate, 94, of Nevada, died Friday, July 16, 2010, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada. Burial will follow in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 21, with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m., at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

Donald was born Sept. 3, 1915, in rural Nevada, to Vinton I. and Darmer (Jensen) Appelgate. He was a graduate of Shipley High School. On March 6, 1942, Donald married Frances Kingsbury in Nevada. Donald enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader. He was a recipient of a local radio station Volunteer Caregiver Award.

Donald is survived by his daughter, Vicki (Lynn) Christensen, of Wilson, N.C.; three grandchildren, Ryan and Donald Christensen, and Wendy (Allen) Watson; three great-grandchildren; and his sister, Helen Robinson, of Nevada.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances, on Nov. 29, 1997; a brother, Claude; and two sisters, Verda and Vivian.

A memorial fund has been established in Donald’s name.

Chet Ryan Mortuary has been entrusted with the care of Donald and his family.
