THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, July 13, 2010.
Katherine “Kay” C. Ellison, 92, of Boone and formerly of Colo, died Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Hearthstone Memory Care Unit in Boone. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada. Burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 13, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.
Kay was born Jan. 23, 1918, in Sheldahl, to Forrest and Ida (Burkey) Horner. She was a graduate of Colo High School and AIB College. On Nov. 20, 1943, she married Thomas Vern Ellison in Colo. She was a secretary for Iowa By-Products in Colo and retired from Iowa State University. After Thomas’ death, she resided at the Maplewood Condominiums in Ankeny from 1988 to 2005. She was a member of Colo Methodist Church, UMW, Order of the Eastern Star, Priscilla Club and numerous bridge clubs. She was also a 4-H leader. Her grandchildren and great-grandchild were the joy of her life.
She is survived by two daughters, Pam Quinn, of Bouton, and Jan Berkowitz, of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Cathy Anderson and Justin Berkowitz; and one great- grandchild, Thomas Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on Feb. 4, 1987; and one brother, LaVern Horner.
A memorial fund has been established in Kay’s name for the Hearthstone Memory Care Unit garden area.
Chet Ryan Mortuary has been entrusted with the care of Kay and her family.
