THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, July 13, 2010.

Robert F. “Bob” Roskopf, 71, of Minnetonka, Minn., passed away Friday, July 9, 2010, of complications from Parkinson’s disease. Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at Faith Presbyterian Church in Minnetonka, Minn. Private burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames, where he will be laid to rest next to his son, Bobby.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames.

Bob graduated from high school in Melbourne and attended Iowa State University, where he earned a degree in civil engineering. He married his high school sweetheart, and Bob and Chris began their married life in Harrisburg, Pa., where he spent two years in the U.S. Public Health Service. They returned to Ames, and he went to work for the city of Ames and began graduate school, earning a master’s and doctorate in environmental engineering. He then went to work for Rieke, Carrol, Muller (RCM) consulting engineering firm in Hopkins, Minn., where he was employed for 28 years. He was the manager of Environmental Engineering for many years and then became president/CEO of the company in 1982. He retired in 1998 because of Parkinson’s disease.

The College of Engineering at Iowa State University awarded him a Professional Achievement Citation in Engineering at Honors and Awards Day in 1991. He served as a national officer in his professional society, the Water Environment Federation, from 1991 to 1994, where he was awarded the prestigious Honorary Membership. He was also a past-president of the Central States Water Environment Federation. He was a Life Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, the American Water Works Association and the National Society of Professional Engineers.

He was an excellent student and athlete in his school years in Melbourne, and kept active and always enjoyed sports and the outdoors. He and his spouse were privileged to have visited all 50 states and enjoyed travel with their family, and later in his professional duties. He and Chris spent many memorable years, often with family, in their favorite winter retreat, Sanibel Island, Fla. He loved his family and took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He was a “good man” in every sense of the word and always set a good example for those around him, both in his work life and his home life. He had a wonderful smile, a twinkle in his eye, and possessed great wisdom and wit. He will be greatly missed by family and friends who loved him. The family is forever grateful to the staff at Clare Bridge of Eden Prairie, Minn., for their loving care the past six years and to the staff at Methodist Hospital Hospice.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Chris; two daughters, Cheryl Astrup (Mark), of Alexandria, Minn., and Cindy Albrecht (Steve), of Savage, Minn.; three grandchildren, Rachel and Adam Astrup and Kaitlyn Albrecht; one sister, Mary Allen (Jim); a niece and nephew; one aunt; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Bruce “Bobby” Roskopf; his parents, Lorence and Emarine Roskopf; his in-laws, Harold and Lela Gamble; and an infant granddaughter, Allison Astrup.

Either flowers or memorials will be accepted by the family, with a memorial designation to be named later.

Washburn-McReavy Eden Prairie Chapel in Eden Prairie, Minn., was in charge of arrangements.
