THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, June 29, 2010.

Guila Jean Tscherter, 58, of Nevada, died Sunday, June 27, 2010, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, at Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th St., in Nevada, with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 29, with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m., at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.

Guila was born Nov. 1, 1951, in Marshalltown, to Harold and Marlys N. (Diedrichsen) Bern. She was a 1969 graduate of Gladbrook High School and also graduated from AIB in Des Moines. On Feb. 20, 1971, she married Mick Tscherter in Gladbrook. She was co-owner of Big 8 Tyre Center in Nevada and worked part-time as an accountant for Allen L. Kockler Company. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church. She also had served as the first woman president of Indian Creek Country Club, was secretary of the Story County Hospital Foundation and secretary/treasurer of the Monday AM Bowling League. She enjoyed playing golf and bowling, quilting, being with grandchildren, traveling and watching Iowa State University athletics.

She is survived by her husband, Mick; one son, Scott (Angie) and their children Caelin, Nolan (George) and Brady; one daughter, Tracy (Zack) Spykerman and their children, Mya and Dane Spykerman, all of Nevada; two brothers, Chris Bern, of Des Moines, and Kerry Bern (fiancée Sheryl Karr), of Bondurant; two sisters-in-law, Linda Severson, of Aurelia, and Sandi (Dale) Witt, of Spencer; six nephews, Eliot Bern, Jon and Cody Severson, and Travis, Todd and Trent Witt.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew, Jacob Bern.

A memorial fund has been established in Guila’s name at the State Bank and Trust in Nevada.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Guila and her family.
